Falls Church, VA area dentist offers quality dental crowns
At Peyser Dentistry, Drs. Richard A. Peyser and Brian D. Peyser provide patients with the care and attention they deserve. This includes restoring the smile when problems exist. When teeth are broken or when patients are faced with the replacement of missing teeth, dental crowns may be the solution they need.
Our Falls Church dental crowns are commonplace in dentistry. They are also known as “caps” and help restore teeth in a variety of situations. Here are some typical situations in which a patient may need a dental crown:
• A tooth has been chipped or broken due to injury to the mouth or chewing on hard objects.
• A tooth has an extremely large cavity and requires a filling. However, the filling leaves the tooth vulnerable to breakage, therefor the need for an extra layer of protection.
• A dental bridge needs to be fabricated, and the crowns are needed for each end surrounding the pontic (false tooth).
• Patients replacing a single tooth may use a dental crown to cover the abutment of a dental implant to act as a false tooth.
Dental crowns are made through a process at our practice. Patients start with a consultation appointment and examination. This is the time when the dentist can decide if patients are right for a dental crown versus another type of restoration. Then preparations must be done. This includes the removal of a thin portion of enamel from the entire surface of the tooth. This eliminates bulk that could be added with the bonding of the restoration.
Impressions are done to create a precise fit for the new restoration which is created at a dental laboratory. A temporary is placed until the final restoration returns from the ceramist for placement. At this second appointment, patients are able to leave the office with their brand new restorations and a new lease on life!
