Your Falls Church Dentist Uses Dental Bonding to Make Cosmetic Improvements to Your Smile
Dental bonding is a restorative procedure where a natural tooth-colored resin is bonded to a tooth and then cured using an ultraviolet light. Bonding can be performed quicker and is less expensive than crowns or veneers, and is considered a great means of making small cosmetic enhancements to your smile.
Bonding also doesn't require any appliances to be made from the lab and requires less of the tooth to be removed compared to other procedures. However, because bonding is still susceptible to stains and doesn't last as long as other forms of treatment, it should be used more for "touch ups" compared to major restorations.
How it's done:
Bonding typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes per tooth to complete. First, your dentist in Falls Church will determine what shade your teeth are to select a resin that will blend with them naturally. Following this, he will roughen the surface of the tooth a bit and apply a liquid conditioner that allows for the bonding material to adhere easier. Dr. Peyser will then apply the resin to the teeth and then harden it using an ultraviolet light. He will then put the finishing touches on by shaping and polishing the resin for a great fit.
